Surgery

For several months Lisa has had pain in her right wrist when doing simple activities of daily living. In January she was diagnosed with De Quervain's tenosynovitis. This means that the tendon of the thumb is inflamed and trapped within a tunnel sheath. Any movements that involves gripping, grasping, clenching, pinching, or wringing causes pain. Lisa especially had pain when turning a doorknob, pulling back the plunger on a syringe, lifting books, working on the computer, and chopping vegetables (thank goodness for Vergie).

Yesterday Lisa had day surgery to release the tendon. It was an uncomplicated procedure made all the more comfortable by the smart Philipino nurse caring for her, the competent staff, the very kind British surgeon, and the smooth running system. We also are privileged to be treated at a private 5-Star hospital because of insurance coverage through Tim's work. It feels a bit like a hotel with its vanity supplies in the bathroom and lunch served on china dishes.

Lisa is now resting at home and expected to have full movement of wrist and thumb within 2 weeks.

Refreshment

Just after her birthday Lisa took a quick trip to Nova Scotia. The change of pace, cooler temperatures, Spring foliage, and laughter with family and friends made it a time of "refreshment". Here are the highlights.

Keep Calm You're Only 50!

Lisa is celebrating 50 years young today! Now there are two of us in the house.  But unlike Tim's busy and public celebration, Lisa chose a more quiet day of spoiling. The day started with a brisk walk before temperatures reached 30 degrees. Then a Spa day! Haircut and highlights, pedicure, French manicure, and a massage.

 

Of course Max, Simon, and Tim made the day special with flowers, handmade cards, loving words, gifts of dark chocolate and a beautiful watch. Then a delicious dinner out and a Rice Krispie Square cake!
